So, unsurprisingly, I abandoned this blog once again. I just couldn't find the motivation to write up another new post or anything close to a review... But I still need to get my output regarding bookish stuff. Most of which I get on Twitter nowadays...
Recently, I've gotten really into audiobooks, it's just so convenient and I can still do homework while listening to it and I can speed it up and listen to the book twice as fast. Love it! Also, last month I went to my second ever bookish event and met the lovely Victoria Aveyard, author of Red Queen and all its sequels. She was so beautiful and kind and sweet and we must have chatted for about five minutes, I loved it. The book I'm currently reading is City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare, because I finally decided I need to start on the mountain of Cassandra Clare books I still need to read. So I'm reading City of Ashes on audiobook and am enjoying it. But I remembered that Clary was annoying to me and that whole Jace / Clary thing was annoying and Clary's thing with Simon??!? But the story is still enjoyable and I love the humor, especially Jace is very entertaining and just my type of character. Plus, I've heard many many times that a lot of people think TMI isn't as good as TID and TDA so I'm definitely looking forward to those. But I still want to read the original series that started it all. And I did start reading it before when I was younger and only the first two books were out. So memory lane for me because I do still remember reading the books, which is rare from that time lol. I never made it past book two though, so I'm super curious how everything turns out in the end. I have some general TBRs in my head for the rest of the year but who knows... Also, I'm currently working on videos for a Booktube channel but who knows if that ever happens. I'm having fun filming vlogs though, even if it's only for my own entertainment. Hoping I can restart this blog / continue posting once again. I'll try my best. xoxo Alina

The Witchlands I adore these books, after finishing Truthwitch this series became an instant favorite of mine. I love the story, the characters and cannot wait to find out what happens to all of them next in Bloodwitch! Also, can we please talk about how pretty the covers are? I love the character design so much and it just looks so epic already! I'm not such a big fan of the UK covers (the ones below)... It's basically the same concept but still, the US versions are way prettier and look more lifelike which I love. Also, the font is better incorporated in the US covers, it just looks neater. Now, don't get me wrong, I kind of like the German cover and the design looks great, I actually like that style very much, but it's so different from the original?! Why do they constantly change book covers so that no one can tell it's the same book?!
Also, for this one they changed the title to "Sisters of Truth". I won't even touch this in German so I have no idea how they translated "Truthwitch" or "Threadsister" (I'm guessing the title's supposed to be the latter)... They could've just left it as it was... Maybe just translate Truthwitch and keep the goddamn stunning original cover... I'm pretty sure no one is checking this blog out anymore anyways. BUT I'm still back after one of the best, scrap that, the best reading months in my entire life. In July, I read 11 books and started two more (I got halfway through both so far, and I still have a day and a half left to maybe finish one of them).
I'm quite active on Goodreads again and I started watching Booktube again after like two years and ALSO, I made a Twitter solely for book talk and stuff. There'll be links down below, if you wanna check that out! Getting a bookish twitter was also probably the best idea of my entire life. I'm already had so many interactions with authors which makes my entire day every single time. I'm also toying with the idea of making a Booktube channel and posting videos but I'm still not sure. I've also been very busy recommending books to friends, getting them books as birthday presents and so on. I've just been talking about books a lot again and I wanted to get back on here and write up some more blog posts. I know I suck at reviews but bare with me. In the beginning of July I decided I would rate books a little more strictly because I noticed I was throwing five stars at every book that came my way. (At least that's what it felt like.) So there was only one book that truly got a five star rating this month and that was a reread of Leah On The Offbeat by Becky Albertalli. Another thing that happened this month is that I actually realized who took up the spots as my favorite authors. (For all of you wondering, it's Becky Albertalli, Susan Dennard, Leigh Bardugo, Rick Riordan and Marie Lu.) Also, I read the very first adult fiction book this month (The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini) because it was one of my mom's very favorite and I wanted to know what kind of books she enjoyed. I ended up liking it but it also wasn't my favorite type of story. It was interesting but I prefer YA. I also got a 2019 calendar and filled it up with all the upcoming book releases I'm interested in. And then, when I was finished, I made a list on my laptop. And last but not least, I came up with new ideas for stories that will probably rot somewhere until someone else comes up with it and writes a book about it before I do. (That has genuinely happened and the idea was 99% the same. Ask my friends, I was very annoyed.) That's all for now, I'll hopefully be back soon with a new (real) post. Thank you for reading. Alina I think every reader who uses Goodreads knows how it feels to be hopelessly behind on their reading challenge. I usually set my goal for 50 books but sometimes I have really bad slumps so right now I'm more than 10 books behind schedule. I know I probably won't finish my challenge this year, sadly, BUT I do have some tricks to finish my challenge faster or at least get closer to being back on schedule... (5) Sit down and just read
(4) Set a daily page goal
(3) Stop reading the book you're stuck on
(2) Read short books, novellas or listen to audio books
(1) Read Poetry and Graphic Novels
Because I really enjoyed putting together the last post about different book covers, I decided to continue this as sort of a series! So get ready for some more of my rambling about ugly covers and which versions I prefer. If any of you who read this are from other countries: Leave a comment and tell me about book covers in your countries! Or if you've blogged about this as well, link me the post and I will check it out! The Maze Runner I'm a huge fan of covers that look different, covers that have this special touch. And I'm also a big fan of using fonts and working with how to present the title on book covers. And as a matter of fact, I also love small silhouettes of people against an "epic" background. So you might have already deduced which of the covers below I favor (hint: it's the second row) and I actually own the trilogy in that version as well which is awesome! In German, there are multiple covers, because the book was published by multiple publishers. I think you don't really get the second row covers in Germany anymore, which is great because I hate them so much! I appreciate the other covers but I still prefer the English ones. Although they stuck to the concept of the covers.
(Let me ramble on for a moment: I like the translation of the title. In German it's called "The Chosen Ones" and then respectively: "in the labyrinth / maze", "in the desert" and - this is my issue - "in the death zone". It would've been really difficult to translate "The Maze Runner" into German so I'm okay with how they translated that but I just think the last book's title is somewhat inaccurate... Now, I have not yet finished these books so I can't say anything concerning content of book 3 but I still don't like the translation.) ★★ |
